Full Professor of Embryology
Marcello Barbieri is professor of embryology at the University of Ferrara, Italy. He has conducted research on embryonic development and ribosome crystallization at the Medical Research Council in Cambridge, UK, the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, USA, and the Max-Planck-Institut für Molekulare Genetik in Berlin.
Before moving to Ferrara he has taught biophysics, molecular embryology and theoretical biology respectively at the Universities of Bologna, Sassari and Turin. His research interests include embryology, evolution, theoretical biology and code biology.
He has been the founder and first editor-in-chief of the journal Biosemiotics, a position from which he resigned in 2012 in order to found the new research field of Code Biology.
He is president of the Italian Association of Theoretical Biology and of theInternational Society of Code Biology.
